Hi there, you can now support Brand New Me financially? Send Money

There are many things you can give God, but these five things I’m going to mention are paramount. I want to start by telling you that life is about giving. Any day you stop giving, you begin to invite death. A practical demonstration is that you can’t hold Carbon Dioxide (CO2) for so long.  If you don’t give out (CO2), you cannot take in Oxygen.  That kind of summarizes life. To live is to give. Even animals seemed to understand the scripture. Luke 6:38 says:

“Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full-pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” Luke 6:38 (NLT)

When you stop giving, you make yourself a candidate of poverty and debt. This is not a “prosperity” message. This is life lesson. The book of Daniel chapter 6 narrates the incidence of casting Daniel into the den of lions. The lions had a consensus and decided not to devour Daniel. They gave Daniel back to the king and that fetched them a far greater meal the following morning, for all the enemies of Daniel, including their families, were rounded up and thrown into the den with the lions. It was a great feast. They were devoured them before they even touched the ground.

Our Lord Jesus Christ was God’s highest seed and God sowed him. Why would God allow Jesus to die? Jesus was like a seed, and unless a seed falls down and dies, it abides alone. The devil was celebrating the death of Jesus Christ, not understanding that the principle of sowing was at work. Three days later, Jesus came back to life. Even so will you come back to life in every aspect of your life, I pray in Jesus name.

God wanted to save the whole world, so He gave Jesus as a seed that will bear much harvest. If you must bear a bountiful harvest this year, there are five important things you must give God.

Give God Your First Fruits

What is your first fruit?

“Honor the LORD with your possessions, And with the first fruits of all your increase;”
Proverbs 3:9 (NKJV)

  1. If you earn N100,000 and you are promoted and begin to receive N150,000. That N50,000 is your first fruit of increase and you should simply not touch it but give it to God.
  2. It could be the first money you receive in a year, or your first salary. However, there is no biblical backup that it must be your first salary.
  3. Your first fruit could on the other hand be what you’ve decided in your heart to give to God as your first fruit.

To tell you the truth, first fruit works. I cannot tell you something I do not practice. I used to be very skeptical towards the whole thing until one year, God said to me, “Why not try it?”

I visited a friend many years back and he gave me a cheque of N5,000. I took it to the bank and paid it into the account of Pastor Paul Adefarasin of House on the Rock, the church I attended last before God brought me to House of Kings & Priests. After I released that first fruit, somebody drove all the way from Abuja, parked in front of my house and said “Pastor, this is my own first fruit.” And he gave it to me. As he left, I prayed and said “Father, I just released my first fruit and this happened, may the same grace follow Your son.” That car was valued around N400,000. It was a 505 Peugeot. This brother got back to his base and when he went to greet his former boss, he said to him: “You have worked with me for more than six years and every other person that came with you left. One thing about you is that you are very honest to me. You’re the best employee that ever worked in this company, and now you’re here. Please, accept this gift.” He reached for his cheque book and issued him N1 million naira cheque there and then.

This brother told his former boss that he just left his Pastor’s house at Abakaliki last week and his Pastor had prayed for him that the first fruit he took to his Pastor will be a blessing. “Since this is the first money you are releasing in this year,” he said to him, “may the same grace be transferred to you.”

A week later, the former boss called him and told him that the Cross River State Government have released the sum of N300 million naira being payment for the contract he executed for them.

It works! The kingdom of God is run by principles. Any principle you break or ignore has repercussions. Paying your first fruit is a direct way of covenanting the rest of your income and acquisitions that will follow in that year. Have you not read in the bible that some people have holes in their pockets? Once they receive money, problems come and cause them to spend it all on irrelevant things. I personally have no business to lie down in the hospital bed to receive injections and treatment so long as I release my first fruit. I won’t spend my money on ill health. I can’t remember the last time I fell ill. Your first fruit ensures that the devil has no hand in the rest of you income.

The first fruits of your grain and your new wine and your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep, you shall give him.Deuteronomy 18:4 (NKJV)

“The first of the firstfruits of your land you shall bring to the house of the LORD your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.” Exodus 34:26 (NKJV)

Give God Your Tithe

When you see certain men who are so wealthy, they’re not all through hard work. Some of them have done certain despicably diabolic things in return for that wealth or protection. You don’t just wake up in life and everything will line up pleasantly for you. Life has principles. Tithing follows a heavenly principle.

My dear friend, Dr. Don Odunze shared with me an event that occurred in Anambra state. A man went to a voodoo priest with N1.5 Million and two cows requesting for a charm that will ensure that no one in his village will be as rich as he is. If you are from such a village, do you think that playing “osingo-osingo” Christianity will work for you? That doing absolutely nothing will exempt you from the potency of such charm? Or do you assume that such occurrence is only peculiar to the certain geographical areas? Similarities of it occur daily everywhere. The heart of man is desperately wicked, and wherever man is, there’s bound to be wickedness. Tithing is one of the ways we as Christians overcome the evil machinations of wicked people. If you have zeal to excel in life, you must not still be begged to obey God’s principles that guarantee excellence.

Tithing started even from the Garden of Eden:

And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Genesis 2:16-17 (NKJV)

In my own personal interpretation, that tree that God said should not be eaten represents tithe. Eating your tithe makes way for financial death. Throughout this year, give God your tithe, don’t joke with it. Any day you eat your tithe, you’re saying to God, “Don’t worry, I can handle my finances.” I’m telling you what I have practiced and have seen results.

“Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse, For you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation. Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the LORD of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field, Says the LORD of hosts; Malachi 3:8-11 (NKJV)

Tithers have no business with binding and loosing because it is God himself who has accepted the duty of rebuking the devourer. You either pay your tithe or you pay it in the hospital, with your car problems, or solving other irrelevant problems.

Give God Your Talent

Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. And likewise he who had received two gained two more also. But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his lord’s money. Matthew 25:16-18 (NKJV)

As far as talent is concerned, you either use it or lose it. If you can sing, why sing in the night club for meager wages when you can sing in the church choir for an eternal reward? We are like instruments. It is either God you’re available to God for good works or you’re available to the devil for evil works. Every gift you have is relevant. God gave them to you. If you’re good with working with sound equipment, avail yourself in the technical team of your church, if you’re a talented artiste; join the drama or music ministry or your church. If you’re beautiful or handsome, use it to attract people to God.

If you’re a lady and a man keeps disturbing you to be his girlfriend, it is an opportunity to invite them to church. Chances are when they hear the preacher’s sermon, they’ll have a change of heart and repent. Use your beauty and good looks to attract people to Jesus.

During our undergraduate years, there was a brother who had an impressive physical build. He was very muscular and had an intimidating macho countenance.  During fellowship, he would go and stand outside and holler at passing students. When they approached, he would ask, “Are you born again?”  If the student answered “No“, he would exclaim, “What! Little you? You’re still an unbeliever, while I, as big as I am have given my life to Christ. Now, kneel down and say after me. ‘Lord Jesus…'” Then he would lead the student through a sinner’s prayer of repentance. The student would of course fearfully consent. When the prayer of repentance was over, he would then say, “You see that fellowship over there, hurry, go there and sit down and hear the word of God. If I come there and don’t find you, I’ll track you down in this school and when I find you, you’re done for.” It was funny and very hilarious, but many genuinely got repented through him. I’m not encouraging you to do likewise for everyone’s grace differs. But there is something unique about your life that has the capacity to draw people towards God. Wield it as an evangelistic tool.

If you’re good at writing playlets or tracts, do so and enrich the body of Christ. If you do not use it genuinely to serve God, you will be easily swayed to use it to serve the devil. A good example are musicians like Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, Bobby Brown, Whitney Houston, who all at one time sang temporarily in church but were not committed and the cares of this world swayed them away from serving God with their talents. Devil is also looking for what you’ve got.

When Evander Holyfield started out to build an orphanage, he had no money. He had resigned as a boxer. But to raise money, he challenged the then World Heavyweight Champion, Mike Tyson. He probably hadn’t the first intention to win as he was much advanced in age and Tyson was very much younger than him. His intention was to use the compensation fee he would receive, after losing the match, to build the orphanage. Out of frustration, Tyson bit his ear and of course, we know the story. Holyfield won.  He made more than enough money to build the orphanage.  He used his talent for a very good work.

Give God Your Time

Never come to a place where God’s blessing drive you away from His presence.  Some people are devout Christians until they hit something big in life, then; they learn to give God less time. They will avail themselves in all manner of church activities just because they have an expectation from God, but once God grants them their request or heart desire, they forget their commitments. That is sheer hypocrisy!

The sign of love in your heart towards something is determined by how much time you are willing to give to the object of your love. Everything you give time determines where your love is. Give time to SuperSports, your love is probably in football. You give time to MovieMagic, you love is probably in the entertainment industry. If you give time to drinking with friends in the beer parlour, your love is definitely in alcohol. And the list goes on. If you truly love God, you will give Him your time.

For everyone looks out for his own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel. Philippians 2:21-22 (NIV)

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)

God is the one who will add all other things to you. It is not you who will add them to yourself. Stop struggling in life for things that God is already willing to add to your life freely if only you will give Him your time. I know of a lady who spent two days to get a hairdo. Two dedicated days! And I wonder how many Christians spend two dedicated hours to pray and read the bible daily. Stop giving excuses why you can’t give God your time. Where will be your job, or hairdo, or club members, when you’re lying on the hospital bed dying from a kidney problem for example? Give God your time, He owns your time. On the judgment day, you will answer to God concerning what you did with your time on earth. Knowing this, you should resolve to spend your time more productively in serving God.

Give God Your Life

Hell is real and heaven is real. Our journey does not end here on earth.  Where do you think our journey ends? Apostle Paul said:

And if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world. 1 Corinthians 15:19 (NLT)

That you didn’t get an education is not the worst thing that can happen to you. That your age mates are all married and you’re not is not the worst thing that can happen to you either. That you are poor is also not the worst thing that can happen to you. Rather, the worst thing that can happen to you is on the last day to hear the word “Depart!” Twelve men followed Jesus, but one of them is hell-bound. As a Pastor, it is not my wish that you will go to hell, but it is your decision that will determine where you will end up. There is no repentance in the grave. Some people gave their life to Jesus, and then took it back. Are you one of such people?

If you give God your first fruit, your tithe, your talent, and your time, but fail to give God your life, every other thing you’ve given Him is useless. The most important thing God wants from you is your life. That you come to church regularly or belong to certain units in the church is not enough. That your father is an elder or a reverend father does not secure you a place in heaven, or redemption from sin. Every relationship with God is personal. We have somehow learned to give our lives to fellow human beings. When you take a flight, you most likely don’t see the pilot throughout the flight, yet you entrust your life in his hands. You enter the theatre for an operation and you don’t know the doctor. You don’t know if he is an occult man. He opens your body and there’s the risk of forgetting scissors or cotton wool inside of you. Yet, you entrust your life in his hands. What will it cost you to entrust your life in a more secure hands like God’s hands? Give your life to God and you can be assured of a happily-ever-after after your brief sojourn here on earth.
